We (two couples) stayed for 3 nights and loved it. John was very welcoming and fun in his various guises as; Manager, Cook, Guide....... The cabin was very well designed and well appointed. If you wanted more seclusion The Lofts would be a better option. Getting up into the Barrington Tops was very special and we will return to explore some more. Highly recommended.Grant McT
Took advantage of the March special 3 night deal. We had a loft cabin with a good kitchen and lounge area downstairs along with the bathroom and spa. Upstairs was a double and a single bed. Loved the scenic setting, no phone coverage (whoopee), didn't turn on the TV at all, ate on the deck for most of our meals, listening to the whip birds etc. The walks are quite taxing as the terrain is hilly but we loved going out with Jessie the dingo, appreciating her waiting for us at every hill as we struggled up. Lots of feathered and woolly critters to pet and feed. The leeches tried to have a good feed on us but we were prewarned to take salt with us on our walks and this soon got them off. All in all a perfect get-away-from-it-all holiday. Cook yourself or eat in the restaurant, laze by the pool or attack the longer walks, it is up to you. Lovely friendly service, thanks Sharini and John.
Room Tip: We loved our loft cabin, would go for one of these again.
Quiet, clean and well presented cottages with all the facilities you can ask for. very well looked after by the staff. they even let us borrow their fishing rods.Very beautiful place to stay and lot of activities to do nearby, the staff will give you ideas on how to go and what to do..Look out for leeches outside in the bush especially if its wet. good to carry some salt to sprinkle on them.

We enjoyed a relaxing drive from Newcastle with short stops at Stroud and Gloucester on the way. While the last few klms are dirt road it was suitable for even the most fastidious car owner. The welcome and hospitality from hosts Sharini and John during our stay was absolutely first class. The property is in a beautiful quiet wilderness area with only the sound of birds and native animals to break the silence. The options are unlimited - although seniors, we are fairly active and enjoyed several bushwalks, swimming and tennis as well as quiet times relaxing on our cabin deck with a glass or two of the lovely organic wine while taking in the ambiance of the surrounding scenery (including a pair of eagles soaring above us). Sharini's cooking in the restaurant was "to die for" and we can certainly recommend John's breakfasts. My wife being coeliac and lactose intolerant often finds it difficult in mainstream restaurants but it was a non issue for Sharini and John. We must also mention "Jessie" the resident dog. She accompanied (guided) us on all our bushwalks and slept beside the tennis court while we played tennis. All in all a great experience.
Room Tip: We stayed in one of the loft cabins which are only a short stroll to restaurant, tennis court, swimming pool
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and could not ask for more. The surroundings were beautiful and peaceful. No trains, planes, just the sound of birds. The cabins were clean and very functional, with our own kitchen to cook. The food at the resturant was great, The hosts John and Sharini were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had lots to do, tennis courts, feeding the animals, bush walking, swimming pool, four wheel driving, etc. We went sight seeing in the surrounding towns, broke down and the country people were so helpful, assisting us in getting us going again, fantastic retreat, fantastic sightseeing and fantastic people. All the staff are friendly the food was great at the resturant..We live on the coast and was a breath of fresh air to be in the countryside....There a 4 loft cottages next to each other and down lower there is 4 family cabins hidden in the bush. You know your going off the beaten track once you hit the dirt road which is no problem for a standard car. My 4 year old daughter loved the place collecting eggs in the morning and patting all the free roaming animals and the odd kangaroo hanging around. The tap on the spa bath broke and John had to fix due to his plumber been on holidays he was determined to fix it no matter what and did!! and offered a bottle a wine i declinded due to the fact was out of his control but he insisted LOL.

Reviewed 26 November 2012. We recently stayed at one of the loft cottage at The Tops Organic Retreat for three nights. Not only were we made very welcome by Sharini and John, but our beloved canines were too. Sharini is an excellent cook to say the least and she took into account my husband and my dietary requirements. The scallops and ginger dish was too incredible so I politely asked for seconds! Ssssshhh. The place is so far removed from "civilisation" but we certainly weren't roughing it. The 2 storey loft cottages are very well laid out and got all the mod cons. Spotted a few wallabies early in the mornings. At night we enjoyed delicious dinners cooked by Sharini. John was a great host too and has many a story to tell. They have some incredible organic wine that we just had to buy there and then from Rosnay. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the organic toiletries provided based on coconut oil. Definitely would recommend people stay for at least three nights. A very relaxing place to visit and just be together as a family without the interferences of iPads, mobile phones, etc. Would love to revisit when time permits. Source:TripAdvisor

Reviewed 4 November 2012. My boyfriend and I just had three nights at the retreat and can't wait to go back! We stayed in one of the farm stay cabins and found it to be comfortable and well presented. We did make use of the kitchen in our cabin to prepare some meals, but we decided to eat mostly at the restaurant as the organic meals were so delicious (and healthy!). We also explored the private bushland (on foot and bike), which was well sign posted, and saw many of the things that make barrington tops an amazing place to visit, for example, areas of rainforest, the dilgry rivers and wildlife! We are now recommending the retreat to our friends because it was such a great experience really can't wait until our next trip up there. Thanks to John and Sharini for making it so enjoyable! But who needs that when the food in the retreat's own restaurant is so good. And, being totally organic, also good for you. There's lots of great walks on the property and also up the road at Barrington Tops. The couple that run the Retreat made our stay even more special with their friendliness and desire to help. “Great family farm stay”
Reviewed 13 October 2012. This was our first farm stay experience and we are glad to have chosen the Barrington Tops Organic Retreat. We stayed 5 nights with our two daughters (aged 4 and 6) in one of the loft cabins on the hill. It was an excellent experience for us and the children really enjoyed being amongst the animals. Our cabin was clean and very comfortable and, on the few chilly nights we had, the fireplace made it very cosy. The loft cabins face the forrest and are private and quiet (apart from the lovely sounds of nature of course). We chose the restaurant breakfast and diner option and found the meals to be of excellent quality. The cabin's kitchenette was basic but adequate for our self-catered lunches. The organic wines were a surprise treat and we recommend them. The retreat is very relaxed with adequate facilities for either relaxation, exploration, or entertainment. Owners John and Sharini, and all staff were very friendly and always happy to help.Overall, an great family experience. A big thank you to John, Sharini, and Ella. Source:TripAdvisor

The only thing with the cabins was there was no oven in the 'new' kitchen and their spa bath needs more jets! Other than that, it is an amazing place, and the staff are warm and friendly. Reviewed 14 August 2012. We stayed at The Tops for two nights on our way south for the skiing. The retreat is pretty rural and there is a stretch of road which is unsealed and pretty bumpy and that was in a 4x4. However, once at the retreat you can relax, there are plenty of walking trails through the bush and into the high country. The bird life is amazing. It was pretty cold when we arrived and the cabins were unheated. However, once we got a fire going and also turned on the additional heaters we were very cosy. We had one of the loft cabins which had its own kitchenette, but we ate in the restaurant. Food was fine and the breakfasts were amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Source:TripAdvisor

Reviewed 8 July 2012. Our family had a wonderful 5 day trip to Barrington Tops Organic Retreat. We started unwinding from stress as we drove through the beautiful countryside and mountains towards the Retreat. Once we parked the car we were able to completely relax by the convenience of going for walks on trails starting outside our cabin. Our 12 and 14 year old kids also loved the unstructured, help yourself activities available to entertain themselves: tennis (one of the best court locations surrounded by a serene countryside setting), mountain bikes, pool table in the dining room, outside pool, feeding the farm animals and DVD borrowing all at no extra cost. We were welcomed with warm, friendly staff and a glass of complimentary organic wine. We enjoyed some of the best organic dinners and breakfasts cooked by Sharini. We are still talking about her great curries! We highly recommend Tops Organic Retreat for families to relax and "retreat" from city/suburban stress. We returned back home feeling recharged and reconnected, craving to do it again soon! Source:TripAdvisor
“Fantastic country getaway”
Reviewed 8 July 2012.We've just returned from a week at the Tops Organic Retreat......and it was perfect! John and Sharini are fantastic and knowledgable hosts, and their staff are friendly and go out of their way to help. Our family cabin had a babbling stream nearby - very special!! It was also very well equipped and set up for every little comfort. The food and restaurant are particularly great - Sharini made beautiful organic food for the two in our family with special dietary requirements - and seemed to enjoy the challenge which is very refreshing - thank you! The daily menu was varied and delicious for every one. Another thing that is really impressive is the geniune commitment to organic food and products and sustainable practices across all aspects of the retreat in a really positive and inspiring way!
The retreat's setting allowed us to have a total get away from city life. It is tranquil and very well set up. We enjoyed bush walks on the property (and managed to spot two koalas!), feeding the farm animals, having a casual game of tennis on a court that is surrounded by rolling hills and a few games of pool in there too. There is a fantastic horse riding stable just down the road (the best we've ever been too) which topped off our overall experience and holiday. We'll definitely be coming back. Source:TripAdvisor

Reviewed 29 May 2012. What a lovely stay we had at Barrington Tops, it is away from all the noises of the city and has that lovely chill in the air.The people working there are extremely nice and always happy to help, the food at night does not follow a set menu, not seen often anymore, the menu is decided in the afternoon based on what looks good in the garden. We had dinner there one night and it was truly delicious! If only more places operated like that...
The only negative is that the cabins are too close to each other, there isn't much sun on them during the day and our spa did not work. The price was a bit high too. Of course not much of a problem as we did not complain and you can't really move the cabins away... Overall we achieved what we wanted to. We came back to Sydney very relaxed and re-energised. The owners were extremely friendly and hospitable, offering us drinks on arrival and throughout our stay and offering their services whenever necessary. We were even taken on a 4WD tour of their land and John, one of the owners, talked to us about the organic industry, with his incredible knowledge on the subject, and their plans to promote a more environmentally friendly lifestyle and be completely self sufficient, amazing! The animals were great, with friendly goats, adorable guinea pigs and a sweet dog! We had dinner one night at the restaurant which was delicious, 2 of us were vegetarians so we pre-ordered our food and it was delicious! “Great experience for young families”
Reviewed 14 April 2012. The trip along the unsealed road framed by magnificent scenery had my husband reminiscing about his boyhood adventures in rural Wales. Our eldest son was fascinated by the views, horses and cows; and as we entered the property, two Alpacas, geese, goats and cows greeted us much to the bemusement of our 4 and 1 year olds. Our first night was spent having a home cooked meal on the verandah by candle light and we were entertained by a very large possum.
The boys enjoyed feeding the guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens and exploring the property. On our fourth night we had a meal at the restaurant. Unfortunately one of our sons was unwell so had to retreat to the cabin before mains. The staff were fantastic delivering our meal to the cabin and latter returning with some refreshments for our son. Both my husband and I had Trout and it was cooked to perfection. No complaints.
John was always available for a chat and very helpful. The Tops is a special retreat for those who want to experience a peaceful country experience combined with activities such as bushwalking, fishing and sight seeing. Our eldest is now begging/badgering us to return.
For those with young children this is a lovely getaway and we can also recommend stopping in Gloucester and having a picnic lunch at Billabong Park. Source:TripAdvisor.

“Lovely wilderness retreat”
Reviewed 10 April 2012 via mobile We stayed at The Tops during Easter in one of their wilderness lofts which are designed for couples, although they can sleep four. Our friends stayed in the loft next door. The accommodation was very good, lovely wooden floors and benches and a comfortable double bed in the upstairs bedroom. Our hosts John and Shanini recently put kitchens in the lofts - a two burner stove, a small fridge, a microwave but no oven. There is a small barbecue on the deck. This was more than adequate. We cooked most nights and had no problems. Whenever we asked for an item that wasn't in the lofts - a salad bowl, a grater or a lemon squeezer, our hosts obliged. We also ate one night in the restaurant and had an amazing Sri Lankan prawn curry cooked by Shanini - a real treat for a restaurant in the bush! They also allowed us to bring our own wine. I haven't a bad thing to say about the place. The retreat is lovely and tranquil: we awoke to the sounds of bellbirds every morning. The many walks around the property are better than those in the National Park, although the NP is worth a visit. Better if you have a four wheel drive as the roads are unsealed. On the property, the rainforest walk and lookout trail are worth trying - but watch out for leeches in the summer on the lower walks. We had absolutely gorgeous weather which enhanced our experience. But I think the Tops would be worth visiting even in the rain. We will be back. Source:TripAdvisor.
